Denied or Received Lower Quality of Care by a Hospital? Self-pay, Uninsured, or Under-insured? Yes! Business Week wants to talk with you! Business Week is a national business magazine. I am a writer for Business Week. I am doing research on how many hospitals are adopting “medical credit scores” at point of admission. These high-tech financial assessments determine self-pay and underinsured patients ability and willingness to pay their hospital bills. I am exploring how these scores may be affecting care for such patients, such as causing them to have to wait longer in emergency rooms, get fewer tests than necessary or getting pushed out the door faster. It may also lead to hospitals denying service. I am looking for patient examples. I am also looking for hospitals that are using these programs. Most hospitals don’t disclose that they are scoring patients so patients are unlikely to know it may have affected their care. So any examples of patients who were denied or received lower quality of care will do. I would like to talk to them. I then will research whether the hospital is using a scoring system.
